Beautyberry

I have a garden bench on our garden level 2, where I sit and look at the lake. At this time of the year it is even more special to see three bushes with extraordinary, bright purple berries. The Beautyberry, yes one word.
Picture
These bushes are nothing special until September and then WOW! The Beautyberry only gets about 4 foot high and about 3-4 wide. I have not trimmed these and they live in part shade and not that good of soil. I do lightly fertilize in the Spring. They do not seem bothered by insects or mildew.

The birds usually have the berries eaten by the time winter arrives, so I enjoy while they last.

I've seen something similar growing in the wild and have wondered what they are. They are amazing!

Hi Minnie.. Wondering if you know what kind of birds feast on your beautyberry bush berries? I'm about 38 miles north of you as the crow flies and though there are LOTS of birds around here, they never eat any of my bb bush berries.. Maybe I should put a little suger and cream on mine? tee hee hee ~

Judi, Titmouse for sure and I haven't actually seen a bluebird eating one, but they always are in that area, so I'm thinking they eat them also. Glad to hear someone near me is reading my blog. Thanks.
